I learned this a long time ago and to this day it still holds true, especially in the ready mix/concrete pumping industry ~ The best ability is availability. Our industry is booming right now, everyone is busy, but there seems to be an issue with every one I talk to, my clients and my potential clients….finding good help. Not only finding good drivers, which is an industry wide challenge, but making sure their trucks stay on the road, which driver truly do care about.
Whenever I stop by plants and take a few minutes to chat up the drivers, I ask what they look for in a company. Of course there are many answers, but a couple I hear the most are is the company providing them a truck that is reliable and won’t break down and supplying them a cleaner that is safe, won’t harm them when they use it and actually cleans the truck without corroding it or causing parts to break like wiring, etc. We all know a truck that’s not on the road isn’t making the driver or the company money..
The best way to make sure trucks stay on the road delivering concrete is cleaning the trucks with a product that won’t cause the truck to break down. We all now there are many products on the market: Glycolic acids ( backset, liquid hammer, sandstorm, BioShine, Kwiksand, CreteDissolve), Phosphoric acids (Vision, Right Off, Rustgone), blended acids (Mudslide, chemstation, Rust Gone), hydrochloric acids ( chemstation, mortarman, arrow magnolia, BioClean). That’s just naming a few of the major acid based products on the market that are used to remove concrete and “clean” the truck. What nobody tells you are the restrictions each of these products have, mainly that ALL of them cause corrosion, rust, broken parts (rollers, trunions, and dried out electrical just to name a few).
Have you seen these trucks on the road? I know you have, you can’t miss them, corrosion and rust you can not hide. I’ve spoken to many of these “decision makers” and they say we stick with who we are using because we have used them for years and they provide good service. Is that to mean someone who offers a better, safer product can’t provide the same good service, if not better service. Most upper management let middle management make these decisions on which cleaning products to use to clean their fleet, not realizing the damage these products (acids) are causing the trucks. They chalk it up to a cost of doing business. I actually respect someone who tells me they use the product they use because they have a good relationship with their current vendor, but to be honest, if I had a good friend who was one of my vendors who supplied me a product for my business but a new vendor came along with a better, safer product I would, unfortunately, have to tell my friend, “it’s just business, nothing personal”. Many times in our industry we get stuck with the status quo, afraid to make a change to a much better product because we are afraid to hurt peoples feelings…but are we in the business not to hurt feelings or are we in the business to make money. I’ve seen all the shops with trucks in them getting worked on, replacing parts, etc. Many of those trucks in the shops are in there because of the acid they use to remove concrete build up and clean their trucks. It doesn’t have to be that way.
What makes me laugh even more is when I see a company who uses TWO different acids to clean their trucks/remove concrete..That’s right, TWO DIFFERENT ACIDS, a phosphoric and a glycolic?!?!?!?!? Well done vendor for pulling that off… There is no need to carry multiple products to remove concrete, clean and protect your fleet. The Synpro line of products takes care of that for you. Our patented (patented by the US patent office not but some lab in Georgia) all-in-one product will remove concrete, clean the truck, bumper to bumper, as well as protect it by applying a layer of wax on it which will help prevent concrete build up. All this while carrying a triple zero HMIS score.
If you are ready to keep your fleet clean, not have the paint on your drum fade, not have to replace electrical wiring, be able to use one product bumper to bumper making it easier for your drivers to clean their trucks, all while using a product line that is safe for your fleet, your employees, and for the environment, now is the time to change over to Synpro.
